I am moving this summer, so I have held off getting larger tanks. However, my cichlids are growing very fast. Esp, my Jack dempsey's and the pleco. They are currently in a 40 gallon tank. I am a bit concerned bc of their growth and everything, should I just go ahead and get them a bigger tank now? What would you do?
I am moving within the same state and the whole crew is coming with me, cats, dogs, fish....

The Jack Dempsey is about 3.5, and the pleco close to 4. They have just about doubled their size...I got them when they were tiiiinie tiny.

What size tank were you thinking of upgrading to? Depending on who is doing the lifting there isnt much difference in moving a 40 and a 125.... Thats been my experience at least.

At that size they should be okay if you are moving in the next few months: upgrade when you move

Ok, yeah I was worried if I upgrade now, moving them into that tank and then I move in a few months... don't wanna stress them out either. They are all still babies, since the cichlid tank is fairly new. They are just growing so fast, a lot quicker than what I expected! Oh and I would get something like a 150 gallon minimum.

ya I would wait till you move, if it is only a few months away but if it is gonna be longer closer to 5 months then I would get a bigger tank now...

Youre moving in just a couple months? Id wait, and just step up the water changes in the mean time. Its only 40 gallons, so a wc should be easy. What type of filtration do you have on it, and what type of filtration are you planning to use for your new tank? Maybe you could setup an additional filter on the 40 for now or something?

If you said you were moving this summer, you should have no problem with their sizes. You could even house a 7" JD and a 8" PLeco in a 40g no problem from now until you move.
