I may be getting a 12 inch CK.

I was wondering what age these fish grow till, since this guy is already 6 yrs old, and 12 inches, should I expect any more growth out of him? I know they can hit 24" easily.

He is currently eating frozen shrimp, and I don't know what he's being housed in at this point in time.

If he's done growing, what size tank is he going to need? I currently have a 75, and I know this isn't going to be enough room for very long. But I need to know what I'm going to have to upgrade to. the dimensions are 4'L x13"Wx17"H

Also, what do you offer a 12 inch fish to hide in/behind?

Thanks for your help. If I can't give him exactly what he needs in a short amount of time, I will be looking to give him to someone that has experiance/room for him.

KCs are great, i have one about 7" and hes only about 10mos old. it sounds like maby the water wasnt properly cared for changes ect. fish release a hormone in their urin that can stunt their growth if water isnt changed and its allowed to build up (even if amonia is non detectible). other then this they grow verry fast once past juvinile stage. i have a friend with one that is 2yrs old and 14", but each fish will also verry. as far as hiding i find it hard to make a large enouph cave/tunnel for my 7" in my 55gal withought taking up to much swimming room for the others. so i would say you would probably want a 180gal or around their, 180gal is going to be my next tank.
also im not sure but i think they live 10-12 years or so, and last but not least feading. you can use most any meat with verry low fat content but at this time i use earthworms as the bulk then goldfish, pork (only meat no fat) and beef heart as a treat. he loves the goldfish i think its the thrill of the hunt lol any way good luck.
oh ya your probably good in a 75 for a couple months but you will need to upgrade.

Something sounds wrong about his size.. either he was underfed or stunted because of a small tank or just happens to be a runt..very good question of whether he will continue to grow.. my answer would be probably not if the age etc is correct but i do not know for certain.. what i bought for my CK was a log to hide in..nice and smooth on top so that if you have other fish they won't hurt themselves swimming by.. he has now grown out of that log and i just bought him this.. it was about $50 but worth every penny to make my boy happy..clown knife is my favorite .. the first pic is the log he had growing up and now he has his new house in second pic since he outgrew the other one..:D all these logs come in various sizes..

You could get a PVC pipe and that'll be fine. 12" at 6 years sound a bit small.

Thanks for all of the info!!

I really have no experience with CKs so I won't comment there. However the dimensions you gave for your tank would make it a 45 gallon not a 75 gallon.

thats a great hap you have, how old and big is he?

BDerick. I may have mismeasured, but last I knew, 75 gallons is how many it takes to fill that bad-boy!!

I'm checking my e-mail right now to see if she got back to me on it yet....hopefully she did!! lol

exstremely small considering mine are about 3-4 years old and are well over 3 feet in length. ures is either seriously stunted or underfed...
