Still haven't done any obvious spawning. There's a 12" beast of a Red Oscar in the tank, that I imagine is suppressing their urges. Still looking good regardless.

They look great! I know my pair spawned almost immediately after taking the last male out, so it's possible the Oscar is slowing the process down some. I wouldn't think it'll stop them from spawning eventually though. You can also do the usual colder water change along with feeding them shrimp to see if that triggers it.

Either way, they're both super colored up and look to have a corner dug out. That's a good sign for something happening soon.

Yeah to be honest, I'm not in a huge rush for a spawn. I almost think I'm happier, for the time being, with them being super well-adjusted to eachother but just not being comfortable with other inhabitants enough to get to business. Not that I've kept many paired fish, but I've never seen an ounce of aggression, or frustration from either of them towards each other compared with what you see and read from other folks with actually spawning pairs.

At some point later, as they mature, I'll continue to thin out the other occupants and let nature take it's course. I would like to see them a bit more out and and about and ruling the tank in all their colorful glory but just not right now. Pretty sure the pictures above don't come anywhere near what either of them are capable of in terms of coloration if they were tank alphas.

anytime i see festae pairs they seem to be doing well together. I'm sure their is a few female or male killers but from what I've seen they typically make harmonious pairs.
