You're going to go with Jeff Rapps' sexing skills over mine?

Ok ok I would too. Like I said, I've been wrong before. ;)

LOL. no its cool bro. you might be right. im just willing to bank on that one being female, that doesnt mean im right:) but as for the others... Prolly male. which is funny cause i have been through a total of 9 F0 festae since early spring and all but a couple were definate males. and all i want is a pair. so hopefully thats what ill get.

No worries. Rapps accurately sexed mine at just couple of inches so it probably is female. Hopefully you'll get her to pair.

There is nothing and I do mean nothing in any of your pics that even remotely resemble a 5" female festae. With that being said - their still young maybe 8-10 months old @ 5" it's possible that the restricted space is causing stress in the female and shes just not showing her true colors for the camera. If Tangled Up vented her than there is no debate about it - Lady looks like a Dude. - Beautiful fish!

Sorry for the double post...............like it really matters.

That Fish Place told me, back when I was buying batches of fry to get a mating pair, - the lower the PH of the breeding water more males , higher the ph of the water more females. The breeder we went with was using a ph of 8 - the ratios I got 2 males to every 7 females. F0's are wild caught correct ???? - if so the ph is probabley neutral which might, and I do mean might (cause I'm no expert) - explain the high dentsity of males your gettin'.

Exactly what I thought too.

Here is a couple of pics about a month or two ago when she was in my 180 community and showing more color. But its always been a blush, nothing more. i figured when she did turn she would be a real stunner. Also since i put them in dividers the sand is black which tends to give all the festea i have owned a darker tint. even when i had my mated F1 pair in that tank it did the same thing making my male darker and dingier instead of his brilliant gold. But in this tank her red blush is dark making her base look a dingy red/brown.

I would be bummed out if Jeff was wrong and all i have are males. If thats the cas ill know soon and just get some females. So that Ph theory... does that work for all fry?

Oh yeah, last year when i bought a group of F1's from Rapps. The female that turned out to be the prettiest looked like a male all the way up til it changed color. so I guess you never know. And either way all these festae are very healthy and will make a good mate for someone;)

You can tell it's female in those pictures from the rounded body/belly and the way the spots are at the rear of the dorsal. They looked more spread out in the other pic.
