Some Filter seeding questions

I think the ammonia/nitrite/nitrates are going up because your tank is so big (350g) and there's not enough established media in there. You said you squeezed a filter and used an old filter, but how about any old rocks/driftwood in the tank? If you could put driftwood from another tank in your 350g, that would help boost the good bacteria too. If you don't have any at home, just go to the fish store and ask to buy some already in their tank.

You might also want to buy some bacteria in a bottle. A lot of people think it's no good, but I used it on new tanks and only had good results. The one I recommend is Seachem Stability. It's $10 for 8 oz. bottle and works very well for new tanks.

thanks you for the advise.
My tanks are mostly barebuttom tanks. I Also used Oceanfree bacteria 8000 , but still no result after 5 days. I'm getting a little frustrated. I've added some zeolite mats to help get rid of some ammonia as my ammonia is quite high and i already have 2 arowanas in th etank. I'mm try to get some decoration from my other tanks. maybe sponge filters.

Was able to detect .25ppm nitrite today, was thinking of adding some salt, problem is i have a kilo of zeolite in my tank.
how much salt does it take for zaeolite to release the absorbed ammonia?

need help with interpreting my test results please.
yesterday I removed my bags of zeolite, I made an 80% water change, since i had high nitrite, I also added some salt.

Today when i tested, there's still no nitrite , ammonia was 1 ppm, but wierd thing is i have 20ppm nitrate. Does this mean anything? tap water does not have nitrate.

Well high salt levels will effect bacteria populations until they convert. But the normal 1tbs per 5g tank size usually never has caused a problem for me.

Nitrates are a good sign as long as they climb.

I would just keep watching the params daily.

By the way what is your PH?

PH numbers below around 6.4 or so cause problems with growing bacteria populations.

thanks :) i think cycling has completed ammonia and nitrite are now 0 :)
