i remember going out hella late at night with a crew wearing my gloves and black hoody... thou my days of street art are long gone....
 
I used to tag the NY subway trains when I lived there in the 80s until they switched over to that non-taggable steel that covers them now. After they did that, people just started etching stuff into the acrylic windows.

I beleive the tool used for this was called a "scribe"... basically a hand-held pen with a very sharp steel point at the tip that was used for manual hand engraving. :)

In NY it's just called using any sharp object you happen to have with you.
