Some ideas for a 60 (48*13*24)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Female festae would work, since they don't get really big and are slow growing. The males are much larger though. The tank is too small for an oscar, since they can get longer than 13 inches. A GT would also work great. They get 8-10 inches max, and a little smaller for females. A gold saum and silver saum are the two types of the false 'green terror' Aequeidens rivulatus, the true green terror, is very rare compared to the saums, and is a bit more aggressive. You can get one from Jeff Rapps though. Another option is a salvini pair. They are very beautiful and only around 7-8 inches for males. Texas may work, although a 12 inch fish is too big for a 48x13 tank IMO.

thanks for all the info. i have to look these fish up sence im not to firmiliar with cichlids

So if i did a green terror/ gold saum or a texas could you possibly give me other tank mates for each possibility. There will be plenty of hidding spots sence i know thats a big thing in cichlids

If you did a Goldsaum or Texas, the only way you could do another cichlid IMO is if you got him a mate. Other than that, you could go with a pleco (don't go with a common one unless you want a poop machine), or a small catfish. You could also try some dithers like some giant danios. Dithers may not work though - the Gold Saums and Texas I have had in the past went right after dithers for a meal.

I c might start looking at other fish groups i think this tank might just be a little to small for this area will keep on looking. Problem is that lik i like that salvini but my lfs are not good at getting fish in when u ask them too :(

I would go with 1 Gold Saum like 5 Tiger Barbs a Fance Pleco, 4 Corys with a good filter but i belive you said it was for discus so I am sure it is a good filter. But the Savinis are cool my bro has 1 thats about 2" and you can c its teeth. But since you like catfish i think lol you could go with a small speciece of catfish indstead of Corys (even though corys r catfish lol)

Sence if i do these type of cichlids im getting that its basicly going to be a species tank. SO i figured why not go big. SO how about a red texas?

you probably wont be getting a red texas since theyre so pricey but if you do get one i can bet you anything that you wouldnt want any other fish in there with it. hahaha.
