Here's some more of the bigger ones....the first three pics are of the "barred" pike, what you guys feel are "venezuela" and the other two are of another pike that I had forgotten about in the 220 gallon.
First picture is indeed Crenicichla cincta, second, third and fourth still look like Crenicichla sp. 'venezuela'...possibly sp. 'lugubris'...last pictures are of Crenicichla sveni!!
you sure this is a cinta? I don't think it is, looks like a Lucius still to me. If that is a cinta, then I have two Cinta's at home, but I just don't see it.
Crenicichla lucius and Crenicichla cincta look annoyingly similar as juv. Really until they are a bit larger, might not be able to completely ID them. Very possible you are right though, as there are very few pictures of cincta juv. out there....rrrG!!
awww, alright. hahaha, you had me going for a minute. When do Cinta's color up alittle bit and dont they have a different jaw structure then the sax species?
Yeah, I figured out my blunder...haha. I was trying to compare the two when they are juv...cuz it really does look like lucius, especially the heavy overbite, so i was lookin up pictures of both species. There is this one picture that you click on that says its Crenicichla cincta as a juv....well...there isn't a picture of Crenicichla cincta, but there is one of Crenicichla lucius....so if your not careful, like i wasn't, it misleads you to think they are cincta...when really they are lucius...haha. Crenicichla cincta lacks the humeral blotch as far as i know, have more prominant vertical bars, have broken splotches in the caudual fin, and have a heavily occelated spot in the caudual fin as well, PLUS have a more blunt, rounded nose. So that should help clear it up...lucius it is!
