Awesome, I had a nice male I was growing out but unfortunately I lost him to intestinal parasites that I couldn't beat with Epsom salts or with metro.
duanes duanes , are these guys no longer thought to be extinct in the wild? I have heard conflicting reports about this, I know at one point they were thought to be gone

These three I got are pretty mild so far they nip each other but nothing serious. Do they take a couple years to reach full size?

Fish continuly grow through out there entire lives, most of there growing is done by 4 years though

I guess I meant what age is typical to reach the 10" mark? My older fish seem to hit a length steep plateau but will still grow more girth.

Anywhere from 4 to 7 years, I sold my old pair off the male was about 6 years old and just over 10 inch, he is now 9 year old and has grown another inch with his current owner.

In some areas they have become very scare. In lake Gatun the introduction P Bass has severely reduced numbers of many endemic cichlids, and have other side effects of the Panama Canal such as the increase of crocodiles, where they weren't before.
I have friends who used to swim and snorkel in Lake Gatun, but the crocs have made it prohibitive, and most cichlids caught on hook and line are the P-bass.
In some lakes instead of endemics, Tilapines are the main species.
Lyons may still be in the more remote hard to get to areas.

I snorkeled in the small Laguna in pics above and below, it was filled with Tilapines, P bass, and carp.

From what I have been told my conkel and rspps is that they have not seen them since 2007 I believe. Conversation happpened away back. I know they are listed on the cares list.

Size wise I'm going to say they are all between 6 and 9 inches. I have pulled any of them from the tank in 2 years. By far one of my favorite species to keep. Plan is to move the pair to 90 or 125 in the near future to let them fully devlope.
I ordered 6 from from COA about 3 or 3 years ago. It took 2 years to get the first spawn which was April of last 2016. I just pulled a spawn for the first time in over year to grow some out.
