Awesome fish. I have always had a weak spot for them.

I have had some beauties myself, but I have always lost them due to endless fighting. That is partly how I started getting so many tanks; trying to separate them. But then they would die from mouth wounds.
How can you keep so many together in one tank. I have always had problems with more than two. Is it like cichlids were if you put enough of them together, they chill out?

you know we have never had that problem .. i wonder why you did or we didn't.. i will ask my husband when he comes in from taking care of the horses because he has been breeding angels a long time.. and maybe theres a simple answer or maybe he won't know either.. but i will get back to you one way or the other.. ;)

How many fish did you keep in one tank? What size tank was it? And what size angels?? give my husband an idea and he will be able to answer in fuller detail for you;)

The first set got along, they were awesome but both died in a tragic heater-stuck-on incident. At that point I only had two tanks and three angels. (90g and 36g) The orange and silver would get along but nether could be put in the same tank as the black. The black eventually died from wounds from trying to find the right combo. the silver and orange had to be split up. I do not know how they died.

I bought 5 baby blacks but ended up fighting as they got older(125g). in the mean time more tanks were added and they were spread out, but could never find a combo that worked. They , like the others before, would fight lip-locked and end up with mouth wounds and die. I believe they have been all male except one from the marbled angels. The 125g community is now my African cichlid tank and from one problem or another. I just lost the another last week in a 16g (last photo). He had to be removed from the 36g. I only have 1 black left in a 36g.(second from last photo---bad pic of the angel) All tank mates have out lived the angels, even in the heater incident only the angels died.

the only thing we can tell you is angels love frequent water changes.. of 50% at least once a week.. other then that advice the rest is a mystery.. lip locking occurs when they are going to pair off but never so serious that we have had any wounded mouths.. {once in awhile i have to separate my severums because the female's mouth gets very sore} so we put her in a 20 gal until it heals up and put her back.. it may not happen again for 6 months.. now the only other thing is that if you had bought the angels from the same breeder and they were all of the same family maybe there was a bit of bad behavior in those genes.. if you bought them at different times and different places well then i just don't know..maybe they were all males.. when we buy angels ..we get a few here and a few there..so we don't breed to close.. for the weakness and faults to be worse.. you have some beautiful tanks and they were beautiful angels.. maybe just ill tempered.. try again with some little ones from here and there.. :) and don't worry about the thread... i love your pictures...also there is a disease in angel fish that causes angel lips to get more and more swollen...until they cannot eat.. that is a possibility..sorry i do not know what the disease is called.. but occasionally we had a couple have it through the years.. and you may have thought it was from the lip locking.. and actually they were spreading it..

a new set up for angels plus:)
