SOME OF MY DISCUS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi Bill, thats a nice collection. about 8 months ago i got me a 70gal tub style tank and was going to do a reef tank but decided discus are prettier. So no its planted and has several fish in it but only 4 discus. i have a 2in tiger pigeon blood, 2.5in turqoise checkerboard, a super red turquiose and red melon that are about 5in and have paired up and already layed eggs. maybe one day i will have a collection like yours.

Hi Jello...It only takes one fish to start your collection growing!...Mine has been growing(and changing) for 20+ years!...So I had a lot of time to get my collection going...and it's always changing. This time around, I am going for the more "classic" strains and Wild Discus Take care...Bill

Id like to know, on page 1, in the first set of pictures, the pair of discus with the fry, what type of discus are those? Im setting my 106 gal up for some discus. That strain of discus really appeals to me i love the colours. Also if i may ask, How many discus would be advisable in a 106 (uk) gallon tank? i plan to also have a medium sized shoal of cardinal tetra's (about 20-25 if poss) aswell so dont want to overcrowd the tank.

Thanks :)

Hi James...That's my wild Blue pair of Discus. In a tank your size, you could go safely with 10 Discus...if you go by the 10gallon per Discus rule of thumb. More fish depending on your filtration and water changing schedule...Bill

Only today i went out and purchased a fluval 405 for the tank and i also have a fluval 4 that im using to help cycle the tank (the filter is already cycled) hopefully in 2-4 weeks i will be ready to roll as my RO system will be here by then and the main filter should be cycled by then. I plan on doing a 20% W/change everyday maybee 2 times a day depending on the fish's size. I was hoping to get atleast 8 fish, so after your advice on 10 im definatley gonna go with 8 just so they have a little extra room :) Plus i like the look of fish when they have loads of room, they are much more interesting. Thanks very much for the help :) Take care:)
