Thanks, by line breeding you can get hemichromis who retain color all the time in soft warm water.
 
Chugger, where did you get those fish? I first imported pretty much the same strain from Germany back in 1970 & they have been in more or less constant circulation since that time. As to color, feeding some arctic copopods (Cyclopeeze) along with bbs will do a very good job. It's all about diet, water chemistry is not all that significant.
 
Check out the 'cristatus' pics in my album. All of the same strain - 3 generations showing the color variations from different diets. They are also capable of looking just like the ones in the Lamboj book ( I'm still perfecting that diet ).
