Great looking Jag. IMO pound for pound they are the hardest fighting cichlid .
However I have never caught adult Myans only small and never caught adult Jack Dempsey but compared to Oscars-Talipia and peacock bass similiar size find the Jag is best fighter.
I have only caught 3 as big as yours in over a year but countless 6 inchers like this one.
I catch and release like you also was going today but its 65 degrees :irked: to chilly.

I'm ready for May to get here for my return trip! Chilly 65???? I know it slows the fishing but that's comfortable as all get out there! Do you put any of your catches in aquariums?

I dont have a boat thus fish from shore thus 65 during the day and I should have mention 52 and 49 degrees for 2 consecutive nights makes for lousy fishing. The lakes are good for fun bass fishing but you need a boat in this cool weather.

May is a good time . The canals are bit to cool and the fish I like to catch (cichlids) don't bite.

I have never kept anything but will keep salvini and actually running an empty but set up tank for a pair lol .
A friend caught a neat red/white Midas which he has going on 2 years now in a 125 gallon .I have never caught a Midas.
There is a guy that post here from Broward that has caught super pretty one's.
The canals I go to have neat cichlids but not salvini thus need to try other canals further north and/or head to Broward.

They have Rio Grande Cichlids in New Orleans I found out, and they hit flies....So I'll be down there this summer with a fly rod and hopefully will have some of those in the aquarium too!

you can catch a few midas down in the south kendall/redlands area when they're paired up, they seem much more abundant down here than in other parts of miami from what I've noticed

Thanks. My friend caught his Midas in Kendall (he lives there) not sure where Redlands are will ask him.

I was just in Kendall Sat went to FishFarm to see if any Albino brichardi or Rainbow cichlids but nothing than hit a few pet stores there and Bird Road.

That would be awesome to catch this beautiful fish from the wild!!! I would have to keep a few. Great pictures, thank you for sharing.
