I dont think there is any difference in the strain. I think the fact that they have warm water year round to continue their metabolism at such a fast rate is a huge huge advantage that they have over our bass. During the winter the bass pretty much slow down to a craw and go down deep. Obviously in florida they feed year round at a high rate. Same thing as keeping your tank at 80 plus degrees and having to feed your fish multiple times a day compared to once every other day or even once a day at 72 degrees.

there is actually a recognized scientific species name for the Florida largemouth

The difference of the two strains are that northerns are more aggressive than floridas while having a slower growth rate. While the florida strain tends to be less agressive but has a faster growth rate.

i thought about holding out for the black but the gold just felt so smooth i figured it probably wasn't going to be better by $50 worth

regardless, great brand and it's gonna catch a lot of fish :P

Was that a platnuim trout? Nice catches

I agree. I have a Shimano Stradic and a Symetre for drop shotting and I can not tell too much of a difference between the two. I was thinking about getting the gold or the pro qualifier or whatever but just decided to go for the black out of no where lol.

Its called a golden. It is actually a hybrid if I am correct. They are usually stocked fish, and you will not see them in the rivers often. They stick out like sore thumbs. I just ran across this thing out of the blue and got him on a 4 weight fly rod and fought him for about 45 minutes. I couldnt believe he took a streamer because they are usually used to pellet. He weighed just over 5lbs. One hell of a fight.:headbang2I caught him near Mad River Mountain in Ohio. Oh and that mountain is more like a hill. Hahaha Ohio doesnt have anything more than hills
