Looking into getting a senegal. They have them here at about 3" and that's what they're labeled. They have NO markings, just straight brown. Wondering if they're labeled correctly #1 and #2, some tips on care, acclimation, feeding, things to look for in a healthy bichir, and anything else you can think of would really help. Been doing a lot of reading but opinions and personal experiences are always the best for info. :D

:feedback:

Sounds to be marked correctly.
Anyway, they'll eat pellets most of the time, and they also love silversides, most frozen foods, and even some FD foods. They're not very picky.

That's good to hear. Anyone hand feed theirs? Teeth? And what is their max size? I want to make sure I have the room for it before I go and get one. :D

Max size is around 12-14". A 55g or larger will house one for life.

They r really nice fish...
Check..for proper fins..nostrels present..and very active...

They reach 12-14".. They will eat anything... Pellets, Shrimp, Beefheart..etc..

Yeah they do have teeth..but not sharp at all.. My big guy go's to bite my finger every time..i feed him..

Is there a proper temp for one to be kept in? I'll buy another heater if I have to. I have a rather open 55 gal, 3 1-2 inch angels, 2 female betta, 1 5-6 inch syno. I have a male betta in a box (a breeder box) in there too. Would this be suitable? If not, I have a 30 gal grow out with 2 ck's (4 inch) and a bgk (3 inch). I'd rather not put it in there though. Don't want too much competition for food. I feel my other tanks would be too small for it (20 gal tall, and eclipse 6).

Make sure you have a lid. The sen will probably eat any fish that can fit in his mouth in a few months just fyi. They are fun though, I have a couple and they are surprisingly active.
