Is there a proper temp for one to be kept in? I'll buy another heater if I have to. I have a rather open 55 gal, 3 1-2 inch angels, 2 female betta, 1 5-6 inch syno. I have a male betta in a box (a breeder box) in there too. Would this be suitable? If not, I have a 30 gal grow out with 2 ck's (4 inch) and a bgk (3 inch). I'd rather not put it in there though. Don't want too much competition for food. I feel my other tanks would be too small for it (20 gal tall, and eclipse 6).
They should be kept in typical tropical temps, around 80 degrees F, give or take a few. The tankmates sound okay, but the bettas might be seen as food.

I can always move the bettas. Would the male be ok in the breeder box or would the sen get in there after him? The tank is fully covered, no escape routes (have had 1 fish turn into jerky trying to "fly" to another tank, african butterfly, go figure. Missed by 6 inches.), so all my tanks have that precaution on it, whether they're jumpers or not:). Is 76 -78 to cold?

76-78 would be fine. Also, the male betta should be okay, as long as the breeder box is not easily accessible.

but beware of the synos
they aren't very bichir friendly and are slime sucking morons
other than that
happy bichir keeping
if you keep the sens with the knifes then your knifes are not going to get enuff food as sens are really vigorous eaters

Like I said, not wanting to keep them in the same tank for feeding purposes. I think it'll b better with the angels and the syno. I'd watch it to make sure it gets enough food, if not it will have to hand feed.;) I have no problem with that, I hand feed the bgk in the ck tank.:D I'm really just making sure I can care for it properly. Is there a ph requirement for them to thrive? My ph here is high (7.6 or so). I don't have to treat the water or anything, but should I add some wood?

I have tested the water, there's no chlorine, amonia, or anything like that from the tap. We have well water so it's like spring water from the tap.

This syno was kept with a 20" ck. He's pretty shy, even wary (sp) of the angels, so I don't think it will be a problem. :)
