I have six of these but it's not easy to say who is a male and who is a female. They all have spots on them but some more than others. I think once they grow I should be able to see the difference.
These pikes are really hard on each other, I had to separate three of them to other tanks.
Does anyone know if there are more than one type of these pikes?
I had some about 6 years ago from Jeff Rapps that were allot more black and intense red on them(they were larger than the ones I have now) or is it just that mine are small?
They are super fast and not scared of any other fish, LOLIMG_0698.JPG IMG_0738.JPG IMG_0740.JPG IMG_0741.JPG IMG_0754.JPG

I think it's a size issue. You will be fine. I'm very jealous of you right now!

They do have unique personality's. They can live with mellow fish like severums or mean fish like red devils without any issues. They do like a cave to retreat into but when they see me they come out right away to check me out and see if I brought any food for them. They are close in personality to my zebrina pikes but the zebrina's are not mean to each other like these are.
I hope they color right up when they get bigger. Also they will eat most anything (including pellets) which is good.

Man...you are klling me as this is the one puke I want and can't get my hands on. Please keep us posted regularly. I have my fingers crossed that someone jn the states will bring these in sometime in the future.

I would add plenty if hiding places like pvc pipe or the plastic resin logs that are hollowed out like the ornaments they sell at fish stores so to provide plenty of sight line breaks so as not to lose any to conspecific aggression . Wouldd hate to see you loose any.

Also, from what I've read from people's past experiences, they can be susceptible to bloating. I would incorporate krill, shrimp, and insects like crickets to put some chitin into them which acts in a manner similar to fiber. The roughage should keep their gut healthy.

Thanks for the info. I have six multispinosa pikes, three of the smaller ones are in a 600 gallon grow out tank with 50 grow outs of different cichlids and lots of caves. They seem to leave each other alone in this tank. The three larger ones I have separated into three different tanks (220,150 and another 150) so they have no one to fight with. I only feed once a day. I never tried crickets, I'm always worried the crickets would escape and I would have an infestation in my house.
I do feed them cut up prawns and peas.

Very nice! Could I ask where you got them from? I had some from the batch 6 years ago too and would love to get back to them. Saw them on Oliver's list but couldn't justify all the importing costs.

Ted judy is doing a Below Water order. 240 for small multis. Too rich for my blood but you can send him a note and get some.
