Some pics during construction of my 540g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The glass is in. 1-2 weeks to fill up.
Sorry but my room mate lent the camera to his brother so no new pics for now.
Guinness

The begginings of the filter. It's a 150 gallon stock trough, and a 48 gallon storage bin with holes drilled in the bottom. It will be set up as a wet dry with the storage bin being filled with pot scrubbers and filter floss. It will be on a pvc stand inside the trough(instead of the box it's on for the pic). I have 3 350 watt heaters which will go in the trough, and a Rainbow fbf 900, which will take it's intake from one end of the trough and it's out flow will be near the pump's intake.
I put my foot in the pic for a size comparison. The other pic is the pump. It's a Dolphin Ampmaster 3000. I will run 2" pvc from the pump to the tank, and there are 2 x 2" overflows which will be plummed into the 48gal storage bin. . It should run about 3000 gph with the head feet I need.
Any thought or suggestion would be appreiciated.

Guinness

P.S.
I know this is taking me a long time, but please be patient because I'm poor and have to pay the mortgage before I spend on the tank.

love your socks...

dont worry about the time.....
no rush :D

Guinness, I love what you have done so far. If you need 2" plumbing I would like to donate to the cause. I use to build swimming pools and have tons of stuff in the back yard. It use to be in the shed but the huricanes of last year took care of that. Send me a private message with your mailing address and a shopping list of what you can use.
Kudos,
Ron Smith

:WHOA: :WHOA: :WHOA: :WHOA: You're in Joliet?????
That is like 10 mins from here (Lemont) Looks like i need to start making some friends :woot:

Tank looks great Congrats

filter looks great ... ive done the same design but about 1/2 the size for a smaller tank and it works wonderfully. for the media i used a layerd mix of bio balls and smashed up light defuser panels - with a floss pre filter / drip tray made from another rubbermaid that nested in the one that was the bio media bin.

the only issue with the system is that quite a bit of water is lost to evaporation - i would make sure you find a way to semi lid that trough.
