After my whole ordeal with finding true Trimacs I end up finding a wild caught Trimac 30min from my house on Aquabid. I picked him up 3 weeks ago from a guy in NY who had originally bought him from Don Conkel. He's settled in nicely and is very interactive. I've been feeding him NLS since he won't touch anything else. Can't get over how smart he is. I tried Hikari for a few days but he stopped coming to the top when he saw the red bag come out. He also gave me a pretty good scare the other day when I fed him a night crawler and almost jumped out of the tank to get to it. Enought of my babbling, here he is...

Looks good! I'm curious...How do you tell the difference between a Trimac and a low grade FH?

Low grade fh will have some type of spangling-usually. If it's not sold as a trimac or if purchased from an unreliable source (lfs) they are low grade fh.

Stunning F0 trimac. He looks amazing. Are you going to find a female for him? And since it came from Conkel, it's certainly a true trimac, not a lowgrade flowerhorn.

Thanks Rob. The 150 is coming along slower than I wanted. The guy redoing our bathroom said he'd be done in 4 days but has taken nearly 4 weeks:irked: I need to have him finished before I can really concentrate on getting it ready. So much for a quick remodel.

Thanks, it's been some journey finding a true Trimac. Now, I have a WC male and several growing out from my Rapps order. Go figure:)

I'm going to try my hand at breeding as soon as I have the 150g set up. Once that's done and the weather cools down a bit my buddy in NC is sending me one of his WC females. Hopefully they'll get along nicely.
