Some pics of my Trimac

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thats a nice male - what is his current size? How is his disposition i.e., does he interact with you much, apart from feeding time? I really like the way his fins are coming up!

Thanks, he's around 9". As for disposition he's very active but pretty laid back towards his tankmates.. He doesn't bother the loaches or plecos at all, even at feeding time. But they do have a lot of hiding places. He's constantly looking to eat so it's hard to tell when he's not hungry  He doesn't back away when I come to the glass and he's let me pet him twice. He's the best fish I've owned and it's only been a short period of time. Hopefully we'll have many years to come:D His fin trailers are getting back to normal after a run in with my Salvini. The Sal would basically nip his fins and hide where the Trimac couldn't reach him. He was moved immediately when I got home from work that day.

By the way, I do believe you have a very nice Trimac also. Do you still have him? I think I had found several of your pics while researching Trimacs. I could be wrong.

Nice fish. Love the red eyes they have they go good with the patch of red on the side.

Jack

Thanks, I can't get over how red they look either. They seem to glow as he's swimming around. Real evil looking :headbang2

Wow - I think you were extremely lucky to have such a big wild caught available to you. When I was asking people around sometime last year, almost no one had WCs, and none at this size (WC or tank raised).

Good to know that he is eating a lot - he will pack on more weight (or size) and will be even more amazing. Its a bummer though that he eats only one kind of pellets, maybe he is picky since he wasn't tank raised?

I agree - Tris are an amazing fish to have - my male has started fighting with me through the glass, and is showing more colors as he ages.

Yes - I still do! Here's a (2-3 month) old pic of him:

Good luck with yours and keep us updated!

It's funny how things work out sometimes. I had checked every LFS and couldn't even find a juvie. Plenty of Flowerhorns but no True Trimacs :irked: I ended up ordering 8 from Rapps which are still growing out. I rarely check Aquabid and just happened to get lucky that day. I was pretty shocked when I saw the guys auction and he confirm that it was indeed a WC Trimac.

At the start is was a little rough. He had me worried the first couple of days when I brought him home because he wouldn't eat and I thought they were born hungry. Found out later that he just didn't want to eat in front of me. Now, he would probably take the pellets out of my hand if I'd let him. Too bad the NLS's are small and I like my fingers:D Not sure why he's taken to the NLS so well but I'm not complaining. I'd rather it be a high quality pellet than having to give him feeders only.

That's a beautiful male you have, thanks for posting a pic of him. Gotta get some updated pics of that bad boy. Sound like he's got a great personality too. His colors look great and I'm loving the a nice deep red throat. Looks like you have another one peeking from under the stump. How many Tri's do you have and what size tank are they in?

Thats true - NLS is actually quite good and has worked well for me.

Thanks a lot.

I have a pair - the one that you see hiding is a female. I recently moved them to a 100 gallon. He is the younger one of the pair, and ever since he has surpassed her in size he has become super aggressive towards her. I haven't been able to breed them though she has laid eggs (which he didn't "spray") once.

I will post an update soon.
