oh to have a yard I could do that in. I just recently bought my first 2 Koi. a white butterfly and an orange with a spot of brown on his head. Both came from petsmart as sm butterfly Koi. $8.99. No measurements taken but i am certain they have grown an inch in the last 2 months. My mistake was not really understanding the size they grow. I am now working on setting up a 55 gal for them. then a 125 gal and then with all luck a place with a yard for that pond. beautiful koi. thanks for sharing. Keeping my dreams alive. :)

worse case I will find a home before they get uncomfortable.

Before long you will be standing there showel in hand building your dream:)
You hear a lot of people who say the same thing but the most comforting thing i get from your post is the last line that you have already started to think of there comfort. when you purchased the fish were you told at the time of there growth potential and given a minimum requirement as to size to house them.( I am thinking no but have to ask)

I think your giving petsmart to much credit in assuming they have given the right specs. on husbandry...

Great collection BTW.

I would say that it is the same the world over in the fact that most of the time it comes down to stock turnover.
I do support a local small pet store that on a number of occasions I have herd the owner refuse to sell things to people that dont have the room or the appropriate knowledge to look after the purchase wether it be tropical goldfish or koi.
Most take offenc to start with by soon see the point.
I actually herd her say once that "why should i spend so much time and effort to provide you with a healtly fish for you to just take it home and murder it" I have to admit that the person did bring back a dead fish with a water sample which didnt help there cause in asking for a replacement.
