did the grass come in little bunches like that, that you were able to just bury in the sand? Or is it somehow all tied together down there? I've been doing some DIY plants, and I want some smaller low lying grass like that, but can't quite think up a way to attach all that grass...

Yea, it came in little bunches that you can break up. I decided to leave 'em stuck together. They're even made to tie more than 1 bunch together.
