Hello everyone, I need to know if my orante bichir is ok. I got him more than a month go. He hides most of the time but randomly comes out and always comes out to eat pellets. No fights with tank mates or anything and is very relaxed most of time. Is he faded in color cause of something or is this just his natural coloration. Water parameters are good. All my other fishes are all in perfect condition except for the endlicher who breathes hard since the last 4 months I had him. I would have posted pic but phones video quality comes out better. thanks everyone.

Water looks a little cloudy.

TBH, if yr Endlicheri is breathing hard, you might want to be more concerned about that more than slightly faded Ornate.

I did at first, but the endlicheri is active, swims around, is open all the time, and eats the most out of all my other bichirs (first to get to the pellets)... so I dont know what else I can do with him. I do water changes every 4 days, running fx5, aquaclear 70, and a fluval 305. Water is pristine condition. Any idea how I can clean up the debris better? FX5... really sucks, i thought it was going to be good, but disappointed.

Too lazy to watch the video, But is your ornate something like this?

When you first got him

Breathing heavy could indicate previous damage to it's gills, or parasites in the gills.
As for the ornate, I can't really tell what it's colours is like from that video. A good picture would be much better.

He looks and behaves perfectly healthy other than the breathing part. Shouls i go with jungle external or jungle internAl parasite clear?

Ill get some camera shots of the ornAte tonight

His color looks exactly like the second picture, but a little more creamy. He was never darker like the first picture though. The subtrate is black so
Its not the substrate. You think they just fade out like that?

Nope, the 2nd pic was taken when I placed my ornate in a 5g bucket for an hour when I had to drill my cabinet. He freaked out and turned white. But he gets his black colour back once I place him back in the tank and he starts to calm down.

So i'm assuming your ornate is just feeling unsecure.

your tank is a bit over stocked....

yaa fish wise its a little overstocked because I cut down on tanks and everyone went to the main tank, but I compensate it by maintenance of the tank, keeping my parameters tip top.

* and yes unfortunately I am unemployed and go college 2 days of the week...lots of time to stare at my fishes all day long. lol
