Some questions about angelfish...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I now do 10% weekly and will change to 25% weekly once I get my python. They follow me around the tank and play with each other. A danio tried to nip, got smacked by the pair working togeter. Both angels now have completely filled out fins.

I use buckets and do even 50%. Good for both your muscles and fish.;)

Hi there... I agree with Lupin..use the buckets til you get your python.. you will appreciate your python even more when you get it and your fish will love the 50% weekly water changes.. Sue:D:D

With all my tanks (mostly filled with discus) I change around 400 gallons a week. So, I use a 750 gph pump hooked to a water hose to drain water right out the door. I have a well, so to refill, I just leave the pump in the tank unplugged, hook the other end of the hose to the sink with an adapter, and let her rip. The temp. is controlled by a mixture of hot and cold water. I've done this so much that I can get the water temp. within a degree or two just by knowing how far to turn the hot water valve. Anyway, this setup makes water changing so easy that its really no work at all. I can't imagine doing these changes with a bucket, or even a python. :grinno:

As far as growth rate, I can only speak from my personal experience. My year and a half old male marbled angel was about 4.5 inches before he died (not my fault, killed by my sev). He was kept in a 80 gallon tank, given large weekly water changes, and a varried diet. I would say that 2.5 inches is still very small for them to be pairing. Give them some time. The hump is definetly not a good indicator of sex. I would deffinetly increase your water changes to at least 30 percent weekly. What size is your tank?

55 gallons.
All the torn finnage from the LFS is gone, and the starting nitrite burns from my pleco's food stash are healing up nicely. I just realized that 10 gallons is actually 20% of 50...

They follow me around the tank now, very cute, and they have an affection for everyone in my family other than my brother. :)

Finalfire, they are 2.5-3 inches...

Nitrite is gone now, params right B4 WC are:

pH: 6.4
Nitrite: 0.0
Nitrate: 40 ppm
gH: i think its 40, it lines up with pH.

They forced the pleco out of his hidey hole for me in exchange for food. They didn't actually use said area, filter is too strong most of the time...

P.S.: one of them has developed a territory and lets no one in but the other angelfish. They do not seem to have a pair yet, but a friendship of sorts. Breeding isn't a good idea, they are siblings...

Update: they kicked the pleco out and only let each other into the cave, a few danios have tried, but to no avail...

What happens if it is 2 females???
