I have a 75 Gallon Tank with a Largemouth Bass a Channel Cat and a RTC (All 5 Inches long) (Yes I know Im going to need a massive upgrade in the future).:chillpill:

Now my questions are as follows:

1) My fish have been scratching themselves for months now and Ich/Ick has not broken out on their bodies.

2) The Largemouth Bass and Channel Cat both survived 2 Ich Flares on their bodies and recovered.

3) I was told by the LFS that when this happens and the fish dont flare up with white spots, its because they have build a resistance to the Ich/Ick.

4) I have my temps at 76 and I dont put full salt treatment because of the scaleless fish. Instead of 2 tablespoons per gallon, I am putting 1 tablespoon per gallon, pretty much 1/2 doseage. (I dont want the Channel Cat to get messed up from the salt.)

5) I have the AP Super Ick Cure medication, should I treat the whole tank half dosage? OR just raise up the Temps a little more and keep going with the salt daily?

Like I said the White spots never broke out, but I see a lot of flashing and I am doing water changes every 2 weeks at 75 %. Water Parameters : Ammonia 0 PPm, Nitrates : 0 PPm , Nitrites: 0 PPm, PH: 7.2

I am not sure whether to just leave it as it is or continue the daily salt treatment or begin treating them with Super Ick Cure which contains melachite green.

Any suggestions will be appreciated:headbang2

I'm a huge fan of the temperature treatment. increase 2-4 deg every 12hrs, until you get to 86deg. then leave it there for 2wks. A friend of mine even saved clown loaches using this method.

Medications can really only treat part of the life cycle of the protozoan, thus it really can't 'cure' the issue all that quickly anyway. The organisms that are in other stages of their life cycle, aren't affected by the medication. Thus, continual treatment (if you do decide to go the med route) is quite necessary.

+1 on the salt method. much more natural and safer

Ok I raised the temp on the heater...(75 Gallon Tank)I added 2 tablespoons per Gallon of Water this time into a cup of warm water and let it dissolve and then I poured it into the tank. I guess we will see how things go, The RTC is going into crazy flashings which is getting me worried, he is relatively new in the tank and Im not sure he is as resistant is the Channel Cat or Largemouth Bass is to the Ick/Ich parasite. The RTC is now hanging out on top of the air stone...Im not sure why but if I have to describe his posture , its almost like a fish swimming downward but he is just in that position facing downward on the airstone and If I move the air stone away from the spot then he follows it and resumes position on top of it....Is this normal or are the bubbles giving him some sort of comfort from the Ich/Ick parasite???:nilly:

Keep in mind that warmer water holds less O2, so you'll need some extra surface agitation to keep those levels up.

Water change will help as well. Clean fresh water is always good. Plus, you'll be pulling out a portion of the protozoans in the water column - reducing their overall number.

I've never been a fan of salt and catfish or any other scaleless fish. Seems to irritate them more than help.

I called the LFS and they told me to avoid using medication for the Ick, they said it can only harm the Catfish. They said to continue with the salt treatment and elevate the water temperature.

I really dont want my RTC to die!!!!!!!!!!:nilly:

I hope I can raise the temp and save him!!!!!!! :(

I don't any have any other methods than the ones mentioned already... salt and raise temperature! I hopefully your RTC makes it....!! keep us updated!

My Red Tail Catfish got really worse now and I already did the salt treatment and raised the temperature. I've gone with this now for 3 days and he is rapidly getting worse Im not even sure he can make it through tomorrow.

Im gonna go with Super Ich Cure by AP at half dosage instead of 1 pack of malachite green per 10 US Gallons. I have a 75 Gallon so Im going to only put 3 Packs in the tank and thats it. Even if I have to change the water and redose , Im gonna do it until he gets better. I dont want the Red Tail to die!

He's my little Kitten Damnit!
