If u do them in a pond id watch out from them trying to move from pond to pond or if they start to find another pond and get eaten or dry out in the sun........... small net around part of the pond could stop that.....

Ponds are pretty big with abundant food supply so I'm not that worried about them jumping. Thanks for the advice though.

very nice updates

Cool update! About ponds amny have keep them in large ponds over there without cover. As long as food supply is abundant I don't think they will try to bail out. They usually go to the side of the pond when they try to bail out in a large pond so you can put large rocks on the side of the pond instead of adding an ugly net. Just place the net during the night time just in case and take them out during the morning. There are night critters that might snack on them.

Makes sense, there's about 16 inches that they'll have to clear if they want to jump out of the pond I'm thinking of putting them in as well, so I'm not that worried about them getting out if I put them in that pond.

These pics were taken the other day, we had a big storm pass through here the other week, and I started doing big water changes in the tank. Needless to say something was triggered in my bichirs, and alot of them started doing the dance. When I saw the PBB's going through the motions I was a happy man. I don't expect anything will come of it this time around, but maybe in a couple of years they will make it happen, and it is encouraging that our climate here can serves as a natural trigger for them:
