Some recent bds and hybrids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Can we see pics of the parents?

No breeders will give up there secrets. Asking some of them is almost insulting . They spent many many years crazy amounts of money to try and breed hybrids that nobody else ever has and expecting them to give up the secrets is insulting .

If people didn't want to be insulted they wouldn't post on a public forum ;). Of course we are going to ask parentage here. I would feel more insulted if I asked the breeder what's the parentage and they refuse to answer when they do know if I was buying one. But for the best hybrids they are usually mixed around a lot so will usually get lost anyways.

Ha!
My bd/ Leo 's breeder was a great source of info and happily showed me its parents , he gave me two types if food it was eating . Thanks Ed!

It's questionable to show them here ,not in the for sale forum and request pm on availability .

Asking to see the parents isn't an insult... the breeder can always say no. Pressing someone who's said no.. now that is Insulting...On that note if a dog breeder/horse breeder said no I would take my business elsewhere as well as if I was spending $$$ on some future ray breeding stock. OP's rays aren't for sale.. so showing off some of the parents "breeding stock" is his/her prerogative... love to see the parents.. but I doubt he didn't expect people to at least ask to see what produced those pups.... and doesn't mean he has to tell the breeding history/species/ect.

This is a interesting discussion both sides make a lot of sense. From my experience visiting breeders and farms in Asia is that many will be happy to show you parentage in there pure BD or BD/Leo pups but when it came to there BIG Spot BD and other crazy mixes, none would show me how they were created. They would show me adult representations of there breedings but never the actual parents. They would just say many mixes and generations. It is there company secret and this information was never release. I do believe that all these new rays are multiple mixes and many generations just like what "Jeffers" said on the prior post. All these new designer rays are very hot in Asia right now.

All comments are welcome but I do not check these posts on daily basis so please don't take my lack of response in the wrong way. It is for this reason that I asked people to email me, but even then I don't check emails regularly, but I do check it more often then messages or post on MFK.

Too answer some questions here. We breed stingrays for research. Hybrids are something we are just getting into studying for the past few years. All pups posted are bred by us. The medium to larger fish and current breeders were not bred by us. So to answer the question of lineage is impossible. We do know that these hybrids coming out of asia are bred randomly with even the originally breeder not knowing the parentage. The hybrids can easily have a mix of over 6 types of rays. We have had litters of pups where every single pup from the litter has a different pattern type. Because of this... many hybrids will not bred true. Because of this randomness in quality... it drives the price of the top quality hybrids up. You could only have one good one and don't know if or when you will have another like it again. even from the same parents. Believe it or not pricing in asia for quality hybrids is more expensive then black diamonds. Many ask if the fish posted are for sale. If it was for sale I would have posted in the buy and sell. This post was to show members here of the work we are doing and to see the feedback. We do sell our surplus pups when they are not needed but we are not commercial breeders.
