II found a three level shelf in my basement that would be perfect for four 10g tanks. My mom said I could have it, but I'm a bit concerned that it could tip over. Not all the tanks would be filled with water. The bottom one would be fully aquatic, the second-to-bottom one would be half full, and the top two wouldn't have water (they'd be for geckos, etc)

Do you think it would tip? Four tanks, with 1 and 1/2 of them filled on a shelf? Could it work?

What do you mean it will have to be siphoned?

Gravel siphon. When you use that thing that removes water from the tank? Water changes?

You need the tank elavated off the ground so gravity can pull (siphon) the water out of the tank

Oh, I see what you mean. The bottom tank would be like 2 inches off the ground. A 10g is so small that I wouldn't mind doing water changes by hand if neccesary.

Keep in mind the bottom one will have to be siphoned. A tank a floor level will not siphon. Show us a pic of the stand.

Why? I have and had several tanks at floor level and never had a problem "siphoning" them. You do understand what makes a siphon work, right?

If possible bolt it to the wall and you should be fine.
as far as it being that close to the ground, it will siphon but may not have much suction but only being a 10gal tank it should not be that bad.
just make shure that it can hold the weight, even 10gal tanks that are half full will weigh a decent amount.

I was thinking of bolting it to the wall, but would that really be neccesary? It would be either one or two tanks filled with water and the rest would just have substrate... would it tip and shatter...?

I would be more concerned of the shelves holding the 90ish pounds per tank. Plus will the shelf hold 400ish pounds???
