I would be down with that if it were true they are better looking with age if I remember correctly?

Usually yes, though it depends on which race/river they are from. I'm not good enough with geo's to tell that much though.

And yeah, Ctenopoma are tough. Nice thick scales, heck they live with jewel cichlids in nature. The big ones.
