Some shots of the tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
also a word of caution, pulsing xenia is like the plague. If i didnt throw some out or sell it frequently it would be everywhere. ALso had to isolate it in the sand bed to avoid it taking over all my rock. This stuff still grabs a particle of sand and detaches and floats and attaches elsewhere. I have to joes juice the stuff!

I have a couple of friends with reefs and they do not have any xenia yet. I'm planning on giving out a few hoping to eventually get some of their coral frags in return :) that and there are a couple of shops around here that will take a few from time to time

unfortunately I currently have a majano anemone problem at the moment. Any one have experience removing these?

I wouldn't go as far as to say the type of Algae you have/had is a poor water quality issue. It seemed to me more like something was neglected or overlooked by the previous owner as the corals and anemoneas seemed quite healthy. Perhaps the Algae was presnt on a coral frag he introduced and he was running a C02 system for calcium, was overstocked creating small amounts of phosphates, add in strong lighting - that's all it takes.

Actually the previous owner had absolutely no fish in it just a small invert cleaning crew. He had set up the tank two years ago and then had his first child not long after so the tank got neglected... well actually I don't think neglected is the right word. He still did water changes and kept up on water quality but he stopped taking the time to pull out the algae that was growing. He also did not add any fish for this same reason.

The candy cane, pulsating xenia and about half the live rock came from his tank. He was actually rather found of the green and pink combo of the algae and xenia. I can't blame him when you look at the picture below:

The anemones and the rest of the coral were mine already or purchased after combining his 29 gal with my 40 gal :)
