  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey, Essa (or any other shrimps expert)
Can you tell me - is it a some green variety of Neocaridina sp. or Caridina japonica…!?
That is a young male:

Great shots, all, Hristo! My fave is the very first one, page 1. Shrimp seem to stand out better against
green foliage, IMHO. Luv the new framing, too!:-)

Sorry, I'm not a shrimp expert...

Not a shrimp expert at all, just a little filter feeder obsessive :-D (also thinking we're both wrong on the 'biggest freshwater shrimp' thing *pouts* It's probably actually one of the long-arm shrimp species but I don't know much about them. Oh well, dosen't matter, lol. what matters is the nice pretty pictures!)

It strikes me as being from Neocaridina... the markings make me think japonica but the color is almost like that of neocaridina 'blue'(top photos) (http://www.petshrimp.com/neocaridinaspblue.html) . Could be a different species, could be a hybrid, I don't know.

Thank You very much again, Essa !

Now, before continue with others “usual suspects”, whose hiding much in some of my other “jungle planted” tank…
I decide to surprise you with something different…
Being guest in friend of mine, I was make some snap shots of those nice saltwater shrimp:

Nice stuff Hristo. Details are very impressive.

Never shot shrimp before, so I can't be too critical. The shots all look very captivating to the casual observer (like me)...but, on my monitor I see a tad too much contrast. Perhaps this is a predictament of the subjects. Just a casual criticsm for my Bulgarian Bud.;)

WOW, Simon,
Its really giant shrimp…:-O Thanks for information – it’s never late to update my statistic data…

Hey, Bobby,
I’m glad to see you again on the line…and thanks for the casual remark…:-)
You’re right – the contrast is a problem of these shots of mine,
because trying to get more photo details I was increase the flashing power…
but this shrimp has too much bright-reflecting zones…;)
Now I try to correct a little bit some options and rich more detailed,
but that contrast problem is still not surmount…

Can I ask what the shiny black substrate is in the top few images? It looks almost like crushed obsidian... or is it covered by a film of bubbles? I can't say I'm a real fan of it but the kids at school would love it.

Simon, a friend of my bring me that black substrate from Germany last year…
You are right about: “I can't say I'm a real fan of it but the kids at school would love it.”
I was made this shrimp tank especially for my daughter Gabby
and she had choose and mixed that substrate with the others…
now she cares about the shrimps more than me…:-P

Except Essa, nobody answer me something about Caridina japonica…;)

There were a few answers in other forums…but nobody said why they call it “Japonica”…
Last week I bought one adult pair, and seeing now closer the photo of the male …:-o
I reveal the reason, though – it’s just because these “Yakuza tattoos” on its body…

Before 3 days I saw her with empty abdomen…and much little shrimps larvae roaming in the tank …
I know only that, to raise the larvae of that shrimp - they will need Brackish (or Marine ?) water to survive …
Will somebody tell me something more and special about it, please…
Those are two other interesting poses of the ex-pregnant shrimp:
