He is around 7". I would have to look at when I got him but he grew quick at first then hit a slow growth period. He was not eating a bunch then about 2 months ago he started piging out again. What do you feed yours? What about water changes?
Thanks. Mine seem to grow in "spurts". Got him something like 4 months ago at 0.75", i'm guessing he's in between 3.5-4.5" right now.
I keep him solo in a 75g tank (well there's 3 plecos aswell) with nitrates reading 0-5ppm. 5ppm being right before a waterchange - I change 50% 3 times a week.
Currently i'm teaching him to take NLS pellets. He isn't hitting the pellets with any speed at all yet, but atleast he is eating them.
Have been raising him up on my own blend of different flakes/shrimp pellets/"Green" pellets all mixed together.
What do you feed yours if i may ask?
They are carnivorous so I feed mine Hikari Bio gold + as a staple. Then a variety of Massivore, Krill and Shrimp throughout the week. That growth does not sound bad to me. I bet he will start being a pig here soon.
I thought they would grase when they were young, hence the varied flake & granule diet up untill now.
Well i don't know if it is actually slow growth since it's my first Umbee, it just seems that way, when he is only keeping pace with my grammodes, which is a notoriously slow grower and a much smaller fish at max size.
Thanks
That is a normal healthy growth rate bro, and as they grow ime they became picky to which staple foods they will take. after all of mine hit 4.5-5" they quit eating NLS and other dry foods and would stay loyal to Hikari products like bio gold and massivore and preferred market shrimp, talapia, and krill. i feed a daily staple of massivore or hikari and 3-4 days a week they get a second feeding in the evening of shrimp, talapia or krillAnd with the amount water changes your preforming, yours will be very colorful and a beast in no time
