This is a dumb question, but is a Bowfin the same as a dogfish? I've caught dogfish a couple different times and was always told to toss them up on the bank.

Yes, Amia calva known as the bowfin also goes by the name dogfish and grinnell. they put up a good fight when on the line but try to put them back if you catch them. awesome fish.
