Okay I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a ropefish today, if it's big enough how do I introduce it to my bigger bichirs (smallest is a 6 inch del) most lfs may have long ones where they may be long enough but their always skinny enough to fit in my bichirs mouth. Of course if its small it'll go in my grow out tank with the ornate. Is there anyway I can introduce it to the big tank if it's large or should I put it in the grow out and try fattening it up? No matter what I do tho eventually the ornate, lap, and delhezi mouth will probably get big enough to eat it( the others too but biggest worries) It's just 20 bucks but I kind of rather it to survive than to be an expensive meal any good tips? Dr.B you got anything on this topic?

I highly doubt you'll have an issue with those polys and a rope fish. I have a 14" del in with 2" clown loaches and several other 5-6" polys with no issues. even my 10" koliba leaves everyone alone.

I don't know how big your largest poly is, but you should be fine if the rope has some places to hide. Other than that though I wouldn't just get one. And if you only get one I would try and find some more since ropes do good in groups. I would also make sure all surfaces are thoroughly covered. Ropes are way more prone to jump than polys. Something else that I found some problems with is food. Ropes as they grow while attaining lengths of large lower jaws, their heads stay relatively small. So once your other polys get larger you'll still have to feed smaller foods for the rope.

So I should get 2 or 3 ropes? Poly sizes are 6 inch del (Frankenstein) 12 inch seg( Nessie- lock ness monster), 7 inch albino (Dracula), 9 inch seg (Carrie), 8 - 9 inch buetikoferri (Jack the ripper) 10 inch lap (Lawrence Talbot), and then two 4 inch bichirs (seg and ornate cant tell what sex). So I should wait to get more than one Dr.B?

No, no live food. My delhezi would only take live when I first got him, but I quickly got him fixed on tilapia. Even still he shared his tank with small loaches and never bothered them once.

Yeah they should be fine with those size polys if you keep them well fed. And yes I would wait until you can get 3 ropes minimum.

Would I have to watch the endi Dr.B or I can be more relaxed and not worry about them chomping another bichir?
