just saw the pics. are you sure thats not air trapped in the fish that can be expelled?

i have had africans die from bloat-and am quite familiar with it lol.. usually the whole fish looks puffed out.. pinecone shaped. i have used flagyl (metronidazole) and it will cease the parasite from getting worse, but from what ive read it doesnt TREAT bloat. maybe im wrong?

you need to start off with a waterchange. i would add EPSON salt and if the fish lives til tomorrow metro it... and buy a freshwater test kit. they are cheaper than buying a new flowerhorn. i really dont think this fish will make it, but you need to buy a freshwater kit nonetheless.

If you knew the nitrate, KH and GH level of the tank, I would tell you how much water to change. With out knowing those numbers....start changing 10-15% of the tank water every day.

How often do you change water normally? Who else lives in the tank? What size tank? All of these were asked previously, but you didn't answer them.

Its not possible to safely and successfully keep fish with out testing their waters. If testing the water is too expensive for you, keep pet rocks rather then pet fish. Seriously a nitrate kit is about $7, and good for about 100 tests. I have 8 tanks and still only use about one nitrate kit a year. I spend a lot more on food than I do on test kits.

How old is the fish I had a 15 year old Midas that had this happen looked identical to the pics you posted. nothing I did helped and my water is always pristine varied diet etc..
I hope you can find a cure

Sorry, i do not test my waters.
:nilly:
Never believed in doing so.
Also, its way too expensive to keep testing waters.

Any idea?

That's why I thought, but I just bought a test kit this weekend to have just in case something happens like what you're situation is.
Just because you buy a water test kit doesn't mean you have to use it all the time. Just in emegencies

If you want to keep this fish you seriously need to get a test kit. I don't regularly check my water either (never had a problem though), but in your situation I would go and buy one in a heartbeat. Also, try to do the "expelling-air" thing that navygirl wants you to do.

I'm not going to accuse you of anything, but really, if you want to keep your fish alive you need to show a lot more initiative. Tell us more about your tank, size, other fish, etc.

(Looking a fish disease list, your fish likely has an internal parasite.)

Alrite People.
The Reasons upon me NOT giving out TANK info is because he's in a small tank.

I have been around MFk long enough to find that there are many people on here that just wanna talk Trash to someone for poor tank size and such.

So i dont need that right now.
Criticism is something i really dont have time or the patience for.

But Since You All Seem To Bug Constantly About the Tank Size.
The FlowerHorn is in a 50 Gallon with a AC110 Filter.

My Water Changes Are usually 40%-50% every 2-3 Weeks.
The Tank Was Bareback, but i thought that the flowerhorn would enjoy some substrate.

Tcarswell: "... Do Some Research...."

-i did. What i found was to feed it peas. Fish is not eating currently. Some even suggest poking it with a needle to release the trapped air. Not going to happen~

NavyGirl76: "... are you sure thats not air trapped in the fish that can be expelled? Add Epson Salt... "

-How Would One Expel Such Trapped Air? I've read somewhere online that adding Epson Salt isn't always a good idea.
