I really dont want to make the DIY one on this site id rather buy one than have the DIY thats all im gonna say about it. Anyways my tap water is good almost no phosphates rarely ammonia no nitrites but the tap is always a good 20-40 ppm Nitrate. I got an RO system to hook up (The coral life unit) But my water has to stay hard and the PH at 8.3 because I keep malawi and tanganyika cichlids. I like the idea of these machines and its feesible lately to get one. Anyone have thoughts or experience?

I am kind of stuck between this model (the 7X15 )

And this model really caught my attention as well:drool:

Water changes. Or build a constant automatic water changer. If you have to add minerals and buffers to your water it might not work so well though. You might be able to find a way to add them automatically.

Nitrates aren't the only thing you're trying to remove with water changes.

Your best option apart from a constant automatic water changer is an algae scrubber, which will allow you to do less water changes. It's just a screen with water flowing down it with a lightbulb as close as possible to it.

Yeah I planned an algae scrubber I got the materials and the extra tank I just am worried about doing it lol. I realize nitrates are not the only thing but when your nitrates go up around 10-15 a week and your tap nitrates are 20-30 it begins to take its toll. Im trying to reduce fish stress because I change 50% of all my tanks water every 3-4 days with a python ofcourse.

I'd just do that. Denitrators are very finicky.
I think a scrubber would be so much better. Considering building one myself.

I am not gonna let it anywhere near my big tanks (for aesthetic reasons) but I gotta build them for my bigger main tanks so luckily 2 of them are backed up to a wall in the garage the third is in the garage so I am drilling holes for the water lines through the back of the wall behind the tank and in to the scrubber in my garage. 2 will run like that the third the 100 gallon in the garage will have a scrubber underneath exposed in its metal stand :irked:

Dont know when ill find the time for this but I am selling my RO because this is much better and my Africans love the perfect hard water PH pegged at 8.3

Wow thanks man its gonna take me a while but ill get through all the links there I really appreciate it!
