No someone dropped them off they had a 55 gallon they weren't imported for the fish store to sell just close the thread please since no one agrees a 40 gallon breeder is messed up to keep 3 full grown oscars in. Sorry for raising the uproar didn't mean to was only mentioning because they were dropped off by a guy who had a 55 gallon and petco shoved them into the 40 breeder

no problem with the post 's intention...imo , it would be more productive to handle the "problem"by use of local media(c-list or the equivalent)

The Oscars look fine for the time being no worse than some lfs I've seen and none of those Oscars look close to 16 inches

I might pick up. The largest for my 180 kinda cautious though because the jar is only 5 inches... I don kno I will do as suggested and talk to some of my local fish keepers

Its a store, they are not in the practice of housing fish long term. Of course they will not have the means to house these properly. The fact that they were willing to take these to try and rehome to someone who can handle them is pretty good in my book.

If it's like the Petco's near me, they take animals people can't keep and adopt them out. The fees are very cheap and the money goes to some sort of animal rescue. I've gotten fish like this from Petco before and the reciept even says "Donation to ___"

I know you all hate Petco but come on, they are attempting to give this guy a home, and they aren't keeping the money for themselves. My local one had a Pacu probably a foot long! It was in a tiny tank but they were just holding it til the person who was adopting it could pick it up. That fish would have been dead otherwise.

Fish stores typically do not have huge tanks for fish they are selling. It's not cost affective and it makes them hard to catch. That tank looks fine for temporary holding of the fish. If thats at 40g breeder those are not close to 16-18". Maybe 10-12" tops. A 14" oscar is so bulky it would look giant in a 40g breeder.
