Someone should make clear canister filters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The greenhouse effect.

I think if you actually saw how fast and how badly a canister got gunked up, you'd never buy one, or at least realize they need much more cleaning than they normally get.

Just snapped this pic. The filter hasn't been cleaned in a couple of months.......unfortunately.
.......not too mucky looking though, I don't think

Ah, beaten to it. Was going to mention these guys.

I believe I read something that Eheim put out years ago, saying that bacteria hobbyists are attempting to colonize did much better in darker conditions, hence their classic filters green/transparent haze.

If you want a real old school shout out on a transparent, external filter, the Diatom water polishing filters from the 60's onwards were completely transparent, glass mason jars.

Now those I have heard of and I think they still sell them.

Yeah, they do.

I imagine the ones now have pumps better than the original units, that had sewing machine motors mounted on top that ran them, which had to be heavily oiled to maintain. No joke.
