okay in my 135 I have a mix of mbuna and haps... I have play sand and lace rock.

The trouble is that a few of my fish have black stuff under their mouth and down their fronts... They are eating well and spawning like crazy... I am not sure what it could be...

help... should I be worried?

Do you have any pictures. I only know of white from scratching not black.

Any abnormal amount of flashing? Or fish hiding?

Too much spirulina in the diet, stress, or parasites are the only things that I hear can cause black spots but I don't know if any of that is true.

I cannot take any pics, but they are eating NLS and leave veggies... They are not stressed... They are mating like crazy... never had so many fish holding at once in one tank... I have only heard of white as well... I have never heard of a disease that does what is "wrong" with my fish... They are fine other than black maybe scratches on them... I guess you could call them...

I've noticed a few of my Cynotilapia developing the black under their jaw and along part of their belly. I too haven't had any problems with the fish and have treated the tanks with Clout and Melafix. No improvement yet but I was thinking it could be from fighting. All my fish act fine so I don't really have a clear answer either.

Have you looked into it being a fungus? I honestly have no clue. And from your posts I know you take good care. I have heard of it happening but no one every seems to know the answer. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I hadn't really thought it could be a fungus - but its possible. I have some other medications I could try out and see what I get for results. I'll post a picture of the meds I have.

I've got Clout, Fluke-Tabs, and Aquari-sol (by Aquarium Products) and Binox (by Jungle). I've only tried the Clout so far to "cure" the black dots, with no luck.

It sounds like it could be Black ich Or Black Spot disease or Tang disease.. they are worms {parasite} and go through cycles just like the white ich..the only thing is this ich is milder and easier to treat but needs to be treated to end the cycles.. maybe if you look black ich or black spot disease etc on google you will learn what to use to treat it.. this is how black ich looks..
