something black on my fish

Well just so you know if you take quick search around http://www.cichlid-forum.com

You will see all of the questions that come up on these "black spots"

Sometimes it can be treated with ich stuff, some times it just goes away on its own, sometimes it can be scars, there is a huge mystery around it and most people say that if the fish aren't acting adversely it likely isn't black ich.

if it were ick would my fish be spawning still? I mean if they are ill they do not spawn right? I will add a heater... this tanks does not have one yet and maybe raising the temp from room to 80 will help...

Just to let you know there is a worm that hosts on fish that look like little black spots they are usually harmless they are parasites there are two different types one that harms the fish and another that uses it as a host. It is more common to get the one who is using the fish as a host (sorry I cant remeber the name of the worm for the life of me, but if I find out I'll post it). My yellow lab has had them for almost 6 months and he is perfectly fine and healthy. I would reccomend that with their daily diet you try feeding them anti-parasitic food as they are hosting and feeding off/with the fish. There are also solutions you can add in your tank. It took about 3 months and I cleared them off to of my fish. It is also normal for it to take that long to get rid of them if not longer, they are very stubburn.

I am not going to worry about it... I read that it is not really a big deal and it does not look like black dots all over...and they are doing great and spawning so... time will tell

oh well if they are fine then I wouldnt worry about it to much either just keep an eye on them, and it is fluke worms that my fish has. Also mine are not all over my fish just on the lower mouth/jaw area and a few other places.

I feed mine Anti-parasitic medicated food from jungle and also AP makes pond tablets but if you do the math you can cut the tablets to a smaller size and those help also. There isnt to much out at pet stores for fluke worms, just parasites in general. You can try to look on the internet for fluke specific treatmetns, just make sure when you look for it you type in fluke worms on fish, as there are many types on many different animals. The Anti-parasite general fish food seemed to work for mine though.

There is 1 really good treatment for fluke worm, I actually have thought about using it since you can have them and you would never know. But if you have fry growing well in the tank you likely don't.

I honestly would say just leave things alone. I am afraid instead of helping them you might do the opposite. As you keep on saying the are spawning, and only happy fish spawn...

cool... my female ahli ate her eggs today, or spit them somewhere I can not see. if she did not hold I am not worried... it is her first time...my other fish are still holding
