Something eat my purple sponge!

Anyone have a clue what should take a circular bit out of my live rock ...there was a small size purple sponge growing on the rock where there is now a tiny crater size bite! It's a 20 gallon take with only skunk clown fish and brittle starfish.....could it have been one of the starfish?

A piece of the live rock is missing too!..its the white circle creator where the night before the spong was on!
So a brittle starfish can take a chunk out of the live rock? Or do I have a hidden unknown creature lurking in the live rock

The sponge was inbedded in that area. Brittle Starfish is a omnivore.

Yes it was in the center of the missing chunk of rock ...the sponge was alot smaller so whatever did it took a good amount of rock with it for the size of the sponge ..... I never had brittle starfish before but there is a large one in the tank...I just didn't think it could take a chunk of rock with it!
