i remeasured my tank, lol. i was way off, from back to front it's 23". and from side to side its 27", also top to bottom 27". but when i say im gonna do something i do it. its my responsibilty, as im the one who bought the fish. but anyway. those are the ,measurements, i understated them earlier

Back to the topic at hand, the op stated something about a 55 gallon being too small for whatever species, and I agree, but where do you draw the line? 55 gallons is minimum for 1 oscar, but a 75 gallon is required for a Red devil? What about a female red devil? What about a male red devil that is fully grown, and only 11 inches? Still a 75 gallon tank? What specifications need to be recognized when considering tank size? Is width a concern, and to what degree? Swimming length? Should the minimum tank size be recommended for the Average size of the species or the largest of the species?

I feal that a fish should have 3-4x it's length horazontaly and 1.5-2x's it's length for the width of the tank and the height in most cases is not applicable.That being said a juvienile rd or any other fish including those wonderful hybrids in a 55 is fine up to about 6-9".That is how the issue of fish size vs tank size should be handled imo the only time i break this rule is for my qt tank a 20 gal and i have put a 12" fish in there for meds and to heal up then back to the big tank with a divider if needed.

I guess I'll never understand why people come on forums to get mad at what they cant control or just have no comprehension. Then end up with senseless postings by 1 or 2 others even posting links to other senseless thread(s) or postings.

Both should be stated a 75g minimum. Pure red devils should be ok in a 55g but you won't find a pure one unless you're getting it wild as 90% of fish sold as red devil are mixes of cit./lab.

All oscar info on the web used to say 55g and still does but if you talk to someone with an adult oscar they'll usually tell you 75g would be a way better minimum. That and people always want to say what they think and not what's in the common consensus. IE people in the arrow forum saying 125g is enough for a silver arrow for life. You'll always have these people and these people shouldn't give those kinda recommendations.

Well those measurments are a bit better. I thought the other ones were a little off for 65g. GL with him/her.

I think it is a little harsh to say that they can't be put in a 55 for any length of time. A 55 would actually be a good grow out tank for a RD or a dovii, which I have actually done myself.

A 55 just isn't a suitible sized tank for an adult.

i agree with him like most of the others. i too have grown out rd's in 55 they can grow out for a while before it is to small of a tank!
