So I just unloaded this into my office about an hour ago.
I have said lots that I am not getting another big tank until after I move. So I got a small one ??
I had about 5-6 smaller tanks kicking around my house that were not really scratching my itch. So one day I had this great idea to get rid of all my little tanks and get a decent sized one. Maybe a 55 or 70 gal for the spare (fish) bedroom. Lol. Next day I opened my big mouth and a friend offered me a 120 with overflow 4x2x2 (my favourite kind) for $25.
I figure that is a steal of a deal so I talked it over with my wife and convinced her that one bigger tank is better than 5 smaller ones. Then the horn beeped outside because my friend was picking me up to go pick up the new 120. She lost it, “I didn’t think you meant right now!!! I need more time to think about it.” Lol ok you can think while I go pick up this tank because it won’t last long for $25.
So we pick it up and it’s very used and needs a bunch of work, hence the price. So I talk to a buddy of mine who builds tanks, ask if he could buff out the scratches and put some bracing on top for a lid or something. He says he needs some painting done at his house (my profession) so I say we can do an exchange. Next he tells me it is easier for him to make me a new tank from scratch instead of fixing the old one. I say “done”.
Then I had another friend who happens to Be a woodworker who owed me a favour, also from painting his house. So he built me a stand for the cost of materials.
I was also able to source out a bunch of other neat little items from old tank set ups that I either upgraded or traded or whatnot. I will get into more details later. But in the end here about to plumb it tomorrow, I have a whole 120 set up that I have pulled less than $100 out of my pocket for (so far). I have spent lots of elbow grease and time though.
