I got the bulkhead for the secondary yesterday. GLued it in and did a water test. Seemed good. But then I had to leave town for the night so didn’t get it filled with water. Today I went in there to check on it before starting to fill and noticed the water level within the overflow was quite a bit lower than it should be. Felt all around the areas that are not supposed to have water and found that the emergency drain is also leaking.
Wow just like everyone else, why is this taking so long? ???
So a quick update- after I posted on Wednesday I fiddled around with the edrain and managed to tighten it up a bit to clear up that leak. Got it filled that day. Next day three in all the fish in my 20 g qt set up with all the seeded media on that tank.
Today I am planning on doing a bunch of maintenance on my other 2 tanks and will be adding more seeded media and hopefully adding more fish mid to late this week.
No pics for now because my phone is all buggered up. Got a new one and it seems to be worse than the old one ?
Love it! I know the feeling though of convincing the girl. It took months of wearing down my fiancé to get her comfortable with me bringing a 150g and 550g into our pet room and she still isnt "happy" with it. Ultimately though they want to see us happy . Cant wait to see more!
I have had 9 full grown giant danios and a 5” tinfoil barb in here for about a week now and all levels are still stable. I kept them all in my 20g qt tank and added an extra filter and a bunch of lava rock to get it all seasoned for this tank
just dumping seasoned filter media into the sump for now, will organize it soon
found a light diffuser at rona that I cut down for a makeshift lid and this could be the beginnings of my first refugium...
so it looks like you can do an instant cycle with seasoned media after all. I’ve read about it but now I have done it. Still reading somewhat like this today so I will be pulling some more media from existing filters and possibly adding the loaches to this tank in the next few days.
That’s a bummer, but at least you’ll be able to play around with it over the weekend. Hopefully you got the threaded bulkheads and don’t need to redo your drains. I personally like doing the plumbing and all the build stuff. It keeps me occupied and is way more fun then doing water Changes.
