i enjoy keeping new world cichlids. everything ive read always says to use a good quality pellet as the staple for the diet (i use nls). the thing ive noticed is that when i feed frozen foods only, (bloodworms, krill, brine, and beefheart) this ferocious appetite comes alive and the fish devour 3-5 times more frozen than they would eat of pellets. i forget the percentage that i read, but something said that juvenile cichlids keep a certain percent of what they eat as direct bulk. so for growing fish fast the obvious choice is frozen foods. imo.

I think you're overlooking the fact that pellets swell to twice their size inside their stomach. Lol you're gonna get flamed hard for referring to the possibility that nls isn't created directly by god and that something else could be better.

+1

Never question NLS Unless you're prepared for a beating

It's true Nls is the supreme pellet. It is now being placed on the banned substance list for baseball and many other major sporting associations. It's rumored that Barry Bonds would eat a whole bottle of 3mm sinking nls pellets before every game.

im not questioning the nutritional value i think they just think it tastes like crap and thats why they dont eat as much of it as they do of frozen

ive noticed significantly more growth when switching to frozen with my own 2 eyes... just sayin.. (on my jaguars)

Well did you take into account that most frozen foods have around 90% water? So the fish would really need to consume much more to get the same amount of protein/fat a pellet has. But they do tend to hit frozen and fresh food harder, the texture is appealing.

I have been a long time NLS fan, but if your sole goal is to grow out a fish fast, a generic high protein and high fat pellet will put on size much faster. NLS is really not a "fast growth" food.

If you are looking to grow them fast do more large water changes. Over feeding will increase your nitrates and I thought read a study about it increasing fat levels in fish and there organs which will shorten life span. Massivore is pretty large but I think they have a smaller size pellet as well. Just make sure they eat it all or you remove the leftover food or it can mess up your water perams.
