Massivore is just the biggest pellet that hikari makes. You can get a giant bag of it and use it throughout your fishes whole life. It's really easy to break into small pieces and predatory fish go crazy over it. It smells like rotting ass tho so be warned.

Agreed, although not on the point of Massivore smelling like rotting ass LOL!

Lol open the bag and take a whiff. /QUOTE]
That's just it,I have heard plenty of complaints about the funky smell of Massivore but I guess I have been lucky with mine as I haven't had any that stunk.

It doesn't really smell before it goes into the tank.

I smell it for at least 2 hours every time I dump it into my tank though. It stinks my whole basement up starting about 5-15 minutes after I've thrown it in the tank. I usually feed about 30-40 pellets for my 26" Royal Clown Knife and 3 big 14-19" catfish.

It smells pretty damn bad. I usually open windows before I start dropping massivore in the tank.

It's true Nls is the supreme pellet. It is now being placed on the banned substance list for baseball and many other major sporting associations. It's rumored that Barry Bonds would eat a whole bottle of 3mm sinking nls pellets before every game.
LOL

i enjoy keeping new world cichlids. everything ive read always says to use a good quality pellet as the staple for the diet (i use nls). the thing ive noticed is that when i feed frozen foods only, (bloodworms, krill, brine, and beefheart) this ferocious appetite comes alive and the fish devour 3-5 times more frozen than they would eat of pellets. i forget the percentage that i read, but something said that juvenile cichlids keep a certain percent of what they eat as direct bulk. so for growing fish fast the obvious choice is frozen foods. imo.

Pellets are low on moisture (some around 10% or less) and animals are high on moisture (around 70-80%+). When you convert to dry weight, the foods are about equal in caloric intake.

Moisture in the food is not kept as bulk, so while it 'looks' like they are eating more, they are simply swallowing a lot of moisture which they will need to excrete. A 2 oz candy bar has more calories than a head of lettuce. Same concept.
