Ok, Im a newb when it comes to diseases because luckily all I've ever encountered was ich. I got my midas last week and I noticed something on his tail. He has also been flickering his fins like somethings been getting to him. I dont' know if the thing on his tail is serious or not but needed you guys to look at it. I started treating the tank with melafix and pimafix today, added some salt and the temp is at 82. thanks for your help

well done for getting a shot like that!
lice?
maybe up the temp and add salt.

same thing happened to my carpintis. It was on his dorsal fin. So I took scissors and cut just the spike out which this thing was in. There was only 1 after i got it then after few weeks another one popped up. I dunno what it was i just cut it out.

Might be lymphocystis. If so, it's very difficult to treat (if possible), but it isn't very dangerous.

my thought as well . . . have seen it on carpintis and blue acara, and both time is was on the fins (caudal and/or pectoral) . . . unsightly, but not necessarily dangerous

as I recall, I treated it with acriflavine, or at least something that included acriflavine . . .

hey guys, the thing on his tail sort of grew like a clear bubble at the end. I also noticed a brown spot on the tail of a smaller jack in the same tank as him. the midas had the spot since i got him a couple weeks ago. i started treating w pimafix and melafix and added some salt yesterday. the water is such a crappy almost hazy white. the tank has been cycled for a while now. the tank is a 75g tank and im running 2 ac110's and i have a via aqua powerhead in the tank that is currently not running. i've always done a 50%weekly w/c change and treated w tap water conditioner and added salt each w/c. any help would be greatly appreciated. i dont want to lose this guy
