Are you sure? It sounds like a kind of fungus that infects fish, releasing spores into the water which attack their gills. There is no treatment, and it can kill your fish! Also, it usually causes various natural disasters to occur around your house, and will eventually result in the implosion of the earth.

Just kidding :) Its harmless, I think its a bacterial bloom? Not positive, but there was another thread about this a few days ago.

Does sound like fungus; take it out, put in in a bucket, pour hot salt water on it, and let it soak. Make sure water is really salty. That's how i conditioned my bog wood.

With fungus, my worry is it might get your fish also infected.

I poured about a small cup full in mine, and just let the wood soak for about week or two. I also topped off with fresh hot water and then rinse it off real well, and you should be good to go.

I had something like this on one of my pieces of driftwood a couple years ago.
Curiously enough my big jag soon had the stuff growing on one of her eyes. I freaked and pulled all the wood out of my tank and laid it on the concrete to bake in the hot Arizona sun for a couple weeks. When the wood came out the infection on my jag's eye went away. After soaking the wood after the sunbake it didn't come back. I suspect it is fungus.

thanks for the help i will pull it and soak it. is there anything i can do to make sure my fish dont get it or do i just wait and hope?

Man, I think part of your wood is decomposing; explain the fungus and the soft rubbery stuff. You can still soak in salt water put a big cup full in it, and soak it for two weeks; it will also help to leach out the tannins that will stain your water. Or, let it bake in the sun for a couple of days then soak the sucker.
