my jar yesterday night went bonkers about what i don't know

he started ramming at the glass and for the first few times he hit it so hard i could hear the thump 12ft away from the tank
and then as i approached the tank he went at banging the glass with much more vigor
is this something that happens normally with these crazy fish or am i doing something wrong

he is eating a little less from past 2 days but that is always his case everytime i do some changes in the tank

had to rearrange the decor in the tank since then he had been eating sparsely

the water params are fine PH is fine and the temp is good
and he lives in a 180g tank with the cats(RTCs and TSNs) from the past 3 months

there has been no aggression from the cats or towards the cats

ok now he has stopped eating
tried
-frogs
- earthworms
-chicken heart
-dried shrimp
- live shrimp
i know most of you would say that he will eat later on and keep trying
but are jars always like this
i mean its just a few days earlier that he started eating with some aggression
and had started coming closer to the place where i used to feed him
and now this
anyone with jars is this normal behavior or am i doing something wrong

bump
hullo anybody knows anything about this

not sure
my jardini is still kinda small but i've never had anything like that.
i just know they stop eating when they don't like their environment.

My jardini is like 15 inches or so, you can check him out in my signature.

Anyhow, he still gets "jumpy" from time to time. As far as I know this is normal until they get to their full grown size. Just make sure that you don't have anything sharmp (like rocks) in the tank that he'll run into because he'll inflict wounds upon himself. I would try keeping a mix of salt in your water always, replace it as you do water changes.

For feeding, try putting floating foods in and leave the tank lights off. Then just leave him be, he'll eat them eventually. Mine won't eat when I first turn the tank lights on, he just cowers in the corner for a while before he becomes active. I'm sure he'll be alright, just try not to add to his stress, just let him be and keep your tank "child safe" in the mean time haha.

My 2 cents at least. My arowana is pretty damned healthy, not that I'm a pro, just what I do.

i always had the picture that the jars always attack and are pretty darn interactive and thought that i got unlucky and mine was a skittish one
and in the begining for every little thing he used to stop eating

and once or twice he has rammed the powerhead as he was trying to run for cover and had a little tear on his lower jaw

and yup i am trying floating foods too but i have never had luck with pellets but eats dried shrimp

nope i am trying to keep away from the tank as much as possible and there are no kids at my place

and hey guys thanks for the replies

^^^i have to do this for my Jar on occasion as well :screwy:.....my Jar rather have the lights off i guess?

headbanger: do you leave the lights on or off? ...my Jar gets somewhat skittish if i suddenly turn the tank lights on when its totally dark.. i would have to turn on the living room light first, then turn the tank light on when he's used to the other lights being on first..then feed :irked: ...total hassle but, he's worth it, lol

i was just about to start a new thread until i saw this. i got a 24 inch silver about three weeks ago and he hasnt eaten anything yet. then all in a sudden today he started spazzing out, hitting the glass so hard i thought the glass was gonna break. i dont know what to do either.

i don't use the lights anymore as he gets really angry anytime in the evening if the lights are on and starts banging on the tank glass or the hood(what i do is i switch on the stairways lights on for 15 mins or so then the room lights , but not the tank lights)
if i want to switch the lights on in the tank i do it by turning the lights on just before evening so that he doesn't notice the difference
