I have had my Electric Blue Jack Dempsey for about six months now. At first it was only just under 2 inches and looked perfect. As it grew larger I began to notice that it's mouth was developing crooked. It could still eat normally and was not hindered at all. Yesterday, to my horror, I found that it can suddenly no longer close it's mouth at all. Suddenly the mouth is gaping open without the ability to control it. It cannot bite it's food at all, and can only suck bits into it's mouth and down it's throat. And even that is done with difficulty.

How could this have gotten so bad so suddenly?! Was it's deformed jaw broken? Does it stand a decent chance of a long life? I need help.

my ebjd looked like he had stroked out back when i had him

his mouth was just completely lopsided but it didnt interfere with eating.

back when i was interested in ebjds i saw a large portion of them with sorts of deformities and what not, in my opinion you will see a higher rate of these deformties in ebjds because they are an extensively inbred fish, in order to obtain the double recessive electric blue gene

when i got my ebjd i bought two the one with the croocked mouth didnt last me over 9 months.reason of death unknown?I beleive that someone had told me that ebjd have a short lie spane?

my reg. JD has a crooked mouth. Looks like someone socked him and his jaw never re-aligned. I never noticed it when I got him, he was almost full grown in a tiny 20 gallon with him, and another fish. He can't close his mouth completely either, but he can close it enough bite me when my hands go in. :)

ebjd get deformities because they usaly are inbread to keep the elactrice blue jeans . also thats y they are weak when little cause thy cant fight off parasites and other sicknesses..

inbread to keep the elactrice blue jeans
Wow. Nice one.

But, back to real words. EBJD's are inbred junk. Sorry you found out the hard way. Mine died because he was afraid of guppies. I wasn't about to accommodate any cichlid that hid from a guppy. And their eyes tend to fall out of their sockets, too. Total BS fish.
